Savasana - Corpse Pose

 Savasana, referred to as corpse pose in English, is considered the easiest pose to get into and the hardest to master.  In Savasana, sensory stimulation and external forces are minimized to let the body completely relax.  This pose always the body to absorb the asana work of the yoga practice.
How to Access
Laying on the back the legs and arms at a v-shape like a gingerbread person, close eyes and begin to relax into this state of rest.  Pose can be held of a few seconds to hours depending on time permitting.  To reawaken the body start by wiggling the fingers and the toes, using the movements to get the blood flowing and energy moving.



As the final pose used in many yoga sequences, it can be easy to overlook the importance of Savasana. Also known as the corpse pose, Savasana is designed to give your body the opportunity to relax and recover from the exertion of other yoga poses.


Benefits

Savasana decreases ones heart rate, blood pressure, muscle tension and general levels of anxiety.  The pose increases energy levels, boosts memory and stimulates the ability to concentrate.  It gives one more easy rest and brings peace to the body.
